May 2015 Happenings
26 May 2015, Posted by What's Happening inSpring seems to finally be awakening, and so does Dr. Franklin’s schedule. Despite winter’s challenges, I had some memorable events during the recent months. I visited a book club in the Society Hill neighborhood, highlighted by hostess Susan Behrend’s delightful Franklin-inspired menu. The club had been reading Gordon Wood’s, The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin, and we had a very lively conversation.
I also spent a day with the students of the Delaware Christian School in Delaware County, Pa. I presented to classes from pre-K to 5th Grade, then joined the wonderful parents and volunteers of Colonial Day for lunch.
I have presided over five weddings as Dr. Franklin, and recently had the delightful experience of presiding over the wedding of two of my favorite gentlemen, a first.
Last weekend it was my honor and privilege to be the guest of the folks at the David Bradford House in Washington, Pa., for their Symposium on Life and Customs of Western Pennsylvania, on the campus of Washington and Jefferson College. I addressed the gathering twice, as Dr. Franklin, of course, and was given a wonderful welcome. My accommodations at the historic George Washington Hotel, ( in the Bob Hope Suite!?) were lovely. I am particularly thankful to the board members and volunteers of the Bradford House for all their kindnesses. They saw to my every need, and it was a truly outstanding experience of history and hospitality.
